Did you know that boxing is the only sport that does not have health benefits, insurance, or compensation for employees/entertainers/contractors/fighters
Although many have made billions from the sport nothing rolls back to the fighters.
Only 2% of fighters will reach that goal like Mayweather, De la Hoya, Bernard, but most of the other fighters will have to find jobs after their career ends, and unfortunately a great amount of fighters do not have other skills other then kicking butt.
Many of them are not educated, and to top it off 90% will retire with some kind of brain damage
So the question is…Is it fair that there are no laws that protect them?
If you work at Mc Donald's and are injured at work you will have compensation. Most jobs do. So what happens to a young man that did not reach that goal of being the undisputed world champ who is uneducated, have no other skills, and suffers from brain damage?
There has to be a law that protect those fighters just like in any other sport, or job.
Don King made millions sorry…billions in the sport, but instead of giving back something to the sport, he choose to give to the American Cancer Society because he gets more recognition “like if he needs it."
I am not knocking the Cancer society at all. But shouldn't’t he have given something to boxing instead, or also? HBO also made millions from sponsors, and PPV, and other ticket sales why haven't they given to the sport?
If HBO gives one dollar from each ticket sales, and promoters also give one dollar that they can easily afford from the drinks, hot dogs, shirts, books, tickets sales we will have enough money to see to it that every professional fighter gets what they deserve. Health benefits, and compensation.
The Retired Boxers Foundation is the ONLY TRUE Foundation that helps fighters with physical needs, basic needs, food, housing, social, psychological, and more without their members ever seeing ANY KIND OF MONETARY VALUE.
No one at the RBF gets paid, not even the president Alex Ramos who survives on a disability check. The RBF depends on people for donations, and every penny from those donations go directly to the fighters. But the RBF can’t help them alone they need all our help. The Retired Boxers Foundation have worked hard for many years trying to get through corrupt politicians who turn the other way when it comes to forcing BIG BROTHER to dish out something for those that gave us their all in the ring, and lost it all their too.
I have seen to many professional fighters get eaten up by this cruel sport, and spat out like a used chewing gum. Isn’t it time we fight for them?
